100 Years of Solitude tells the multi-generational story of the Buendia family and the small South American town of Macondo. While following their evolution it grapples with the influence of the past, the complexity of time, and the conflict between the need for solitude and love.

Since it’s publication in 1967, 100 Years of Solitude has been widely acclaimed selling over 55 million copies, being translated into 46 languages and often regarded as one of the most influential works of both Latin American and world literature. This book and Garcia Marquez helped define the genre of Magical Realism. Gabriel Garcia Marquez was a Colombian novelist and winner of the 1982 Nobel Prize in Literature.
