Join Carnegie-Stout Public Library at the Multicultural Family Center in a celebration of Black American history and Dubuque's creative community with a showing of "Hidden in Plain Sight," the 2022 Walk Through Black History production with local playwright Peggy Jackson. Doors will open at 5:30 p.m., the showing will begin at 6:00 p.m., and Peggy Jackson and members of the cast will hold a Q & A session immediately after the showing around 7:20 p.m. This event is part of the 2024 Dubuque County Reads program featuring a historical novel of Belle da Costa Greene's life.

Nine Dubuque County libraries are joining together for the second annual Dubuque County Reads program! Dubuque County Reads is a program to encourage community members to read a common book and come together for productive conversation. Complete details and information about these events are available online at libguides.dbq.edu/dubuquecountyreads

Copies of the 2024 title, "The Personal Librarian" by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray, are available to borrow from Carnegie-Stout Public Library. Join us for a discussion of the book at Carnegie-Stout on Monday, April 8 at 6 p.m. or join one of the other discussions happening throughout the county.

Belle da Costa Greene was J.P. Morgan's personal librarian and a Black American woman who was forced to hide her true identity and pass as white in order to protect her family and leave a lasting legacy that enriched our nation.

River Lights Bookstore in Dubuque has copies of the book at a 25% discount. For those interested in further supporting Dubuque County Reads and helping get books into the hands of interested readers, River Lights will accept monetary donations to purchase additional copies of “The Personal Librarian” for libraries to distribute to book club participants to keep.
