Celebrate and Explore the rich heritage of the Dubuque area! The Dubuque Area History Expo will be held in Steeple Square, the historic former home of St. Mary’s parish, and will showcase the Dubuque area’s heritage through compelling presentations and an exhibit hall featuring local institutions.
Presentations will be at 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. The first presentation, "Uncovering Dubuque's Black Heritage" by Chris Happ Olson, Assistant Planner for the City of Dubuque, will highlight how Dubuque’s African American history contributes to a broader understanding of the city's cultural heritage. The second presentation, "A City at Work: 1912 and 2012" by Artist Tim Olson under the Center for Dubuque History, will show how Olson restored a vast photographic archive of people working in Dubuque in 1912 and recreated the project a century later.
This event is free and open to the public and sponsored by Carnegie-Stout Public Library, Loras College Center for Dubuque History, National Mississippi River Museum & Aquarium, Northeast Iowa Community College, Divine Word College, and the City of Dubuque Historic Preservation Commission.
