The nationally touring and celebrated guitarist Peter Fletcher will perform a solo-recital entitled “Music of Four Centuries,” which runs the gamut from the Renaissance Period through the 20th Century.
His program features Bach’s Third Lute Suite and Jesu, Joy of Man’s Desiring; three dances from Terpsichore by Michael Praetorius; American guitarist and composer Andrew York’s Jubilation; the ever-popular Caprice No. 24 by Paganini; and Barcarole and Danza Pomposa by Polish composer Alexandre Tansman. Peter is especially excited to perform Simple Gifts, a Traditional Shaker Hymn arranged for guitar by guitarist Christopher Parkening. This piece, as well as Jubilation, are part of Fletcher’s Christmas album, released in 2015. There will also be music by Dowland, Ponce, Villa-Lobos, and the concert will culminate with Spanish composer Isaac Albeniz’s Córdoba and Leyenda from Cantos de España, arranged by Fletcher from piano to classical guitar.
Fletcher has been invited to perform at several prestigious venues across the United States including several performances at Carnegie Hall’s Weill Recital Hall in which he drew sold-out crowds. His recorded albums “The Art of Classical Guitar,” “A Peter Fletcher Recital,” and “Federico Mompou: Guitar Works,” have been highly praised. His interests outside of music include gardening, running, bike riding and fountain pens. An avid reader, he prefers the works of Cervantes, Proust, Faulkner, and Balzac.
